Qualification Description

This qualification reflects the role of an individual working as a senior civil works designer or a para-professional designer, who supports professional engineers. They perform tasks that are broad, specialised, complex and technical and include strategic areas and initiating activities. They are responsible for the design of complex projects to ensure the implementation of the client’s site requirements and are required to demonstrate self-directed application of theoretical and technical knowledge and initiate solutions to technical problems or management requirements.

Vocational Outcome Participants will also be eligible to seek employment working in a small, medium or large enterprise, in a variety of industries, in both the public and private sector. Potential careers such as Engineering technical assistant, Engineering designer, Civil construction project manager, Civil Engineering Draftsperson, Civil Engineering Design Draftsperson, Civil Engineering Technician, Road Design Draftsperson, Sewage Reticulation Drafting Officer and

Structural Engineering Drafting Officer.

 

Academic Pathway

Training is delivered in stages which correspond to AQF Levels VI. On completion of this qualification, candidates may choose to undertake the Bachelor of Engineering (Civil).

 

Course Delivery & Assessment Methods

      • Delivery and assessment strategies are selected to reflect the nature of the elements and performance criteria of the competency together with the needs and learning style of the participants. Delivery and assessment method includes a blended learning practice including learning management system (Moodle).
      • Assessment methodology may include but is not limited to: observation, project/ report, case study, role play, exercises, activities; and written/oral tasks including multiple choice, questions and answer, essays, true/false and presentations.

 

Entry Requirements for Students

  1. Age Requirements:
    • Must be 18 years of age or older at the time of course commencement
  2. Academic requirements:
    • Successful completion of Year 12 or equivalent or
    • Successful completion of an AQF Certificate IV qualification or higher from an Australian institution where the course duration was no less than 12 months. (refer to table 1)
    • Some prospective students may be asked to undertake an LLN assessment or enrolment interview prior to acceptance.
    • For Packaged courses, the student cannot progress to the higher qualification unless the student has (successfully) completed the lower qualification.
  3. English requirement:
    • Academic IELTS 6 overall, no less than 5.5 in each band with test results no more than 2 years old, or
    • Other English language tests, such as PTE and TOEFL, are accepted if the scores are equivalent to an IELTS 6.0. Students must provide their results for verification by the Training Masters (refer to table 2), or
    • Completion of an approved Australian English Language course with equivalent level.
  4. Visa Requirements:
    • You must meet the requirements for an Australian student visa subclass 500 or valid Australian visa where you are eligible to study.

English language waiver. All international students are required to full fill English language requirements. However, the following exceptions can be applicable:

  1. English language requirements will waive for those students who primarily educated in the following countries/territories:
  1. English-speaking country- Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, United Kingdom, United States of America, Republic of Ireland.
  2. Another Country- American Samoa, Antigua and Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Botswana, Cameroon, Cook Islands, Dominica, Falkland Islands, Fiji, Gambia, Gibraltar, Grenada, Ghana, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho, Liberia Malawi, Maldives, Mauritius Namibia, Nauru, Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Solomon Islands, Philippines, Samoa, Seychelles, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia Tanzania Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda, Vanuatu Zambia, Zimbabwe.
      •  Students who have recently completed one-year full time tertiary study in Australia or another English-speaking country.
      • Students who have recently completed Secondary study or at least one-year full-time tertiary study in another country that listed above and the language in which this qualification was undertaken mush be in English.
