Guide: How to get a USI
Unique Student Identifier (USI)
A Unique Student Identifier (USI) is your free, lifelong education number. You only need to create it once.
Students undertaking nationally recognised VET in Australia generally need a USI. Training Masters must have and verify your USI before issuing a nationally recognised qualification or Statement of Attainment, unless an exemption applies.
International Students
If you are an international student coming to Australia, you generally create your USI after you arrive in Australia, using your non-Australian passport and Australian visa. Make sure the legal name on your USI matches your identification and Training Masters enrolment details.
How to Create Your USI
Creating your USI is free and normally takes only a few minutes.
Go to the official USI Student Portal.
Select Create a USI and agree to the terms and conditions.
Select the identity document you will use. International students who have arrived in Australia can normally use their non-Australian passport and Australian visa.
Enter your personal details exactly as they appear on your identity document.
Enter your current contact details.
Complete the identity verification process.
Create your password and security questions and complete any required account security steps.
Your USI will be displayed when the process is successfully completed. Save your USI somewhere safe.
Provide your USI to Training Masters so that it can be verified against your enrolment record.
